A bug in change-detection logic meant the trailer appeared in final Git history even after users manually replaced AI-generated commit messages. After massive backlash (1,349 HN points, 723 comments), Microsoft developer Dmitriy Vasyura authored a fix on May 3 reverting to opt-in, scheduled for VS Code 1.119.
