arXiv Implements 1-Year Ban for Papers with Unchecked LLM-Generated Errors
r/MachineLearning·high signal
arXiv now imposes a one-year submission ban on authors whose papers contain incontrovertible evidence of unchecked LLM output — hallucinated references, meta-comments like 'would you like me to make any changes?', or placeholder data. Announced by cs.LG moderator Thomas Dietterich, the policy treats unchecked AI output as an authorship failure. Hallucinated citations have risen tenfold since 2023, reaching 1 in every 277 papers in early 2026.
