The `budget_tokens` parameter is deprecated on Claude Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 and will be removed in a future release. Developers must migrate to adaptive thinking with the `effort` parameter. On Opus 4.7 and later, `type: 'enabled'` requests already return 400 errors. Users who disabled adaptive thinking in Claude Code to maintain quality will lose that toggle.
