Google I/O 2026 crystallizes a pattern that's been building all quarter: the primary developer surface is shifting from IDE + AI assistant to standalone agent orchestration platform. Google's Antigravity 2.0 has no IDE — it's conversations, projects, and multi-agent management. Anthropic's Claude Code Agent View ships session dashboards and dispatch flags. Nous's hermes-agent runs as a persistent daemon. The IDE is becoming one of many surfaces an agent can use, not the container for the agent itself.
