Pattern: Every Major AI Lab Now Ships a Coding Agent CLI — The Terminal Is the New IDE
With xAI's Grok Build launch on May 14, every major AI lab now has a terminal-based coding agent: Anthropic (Claude Code), OpenAI (Codex CLI), Google (Gemini CLI + Antigravity), and xAI (Grok Build). All four share the same architecture: CLI entry point, parallel subagent execution, plan-then-execute workflows, MCP/plugin support, and convention-file reading (CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md). The competition has shifted from 'can we build a coding agent' to 'how many parallel agents can run, and how cheaply.'
