Anthropic expands Claude Cowork to mobile and web with remote, device-independent agent sessions

Beginning July 7 and rolling out through July 9, Anthropic moved Cowork sessions off the local machine: sessions and files persist to the Claude account, background work continues after the laptop closes, scheduled tasks run with no device online, and approvals can be granted from mobile. Beta access started with Max subscribers, with doubled usage limits through August 5. The shift from local process to hosted session is the architectural change that matters — it makes Cowork a durable agent runtime rather than a desktop app, and it puts scheduling and human-in-the-loop approval on the critical path.
