Pattern: Agent UIs Are Replacing 'Pick a Model' With 'Pick an Effort Level'

Amp's low/medium/high/ultra Dial, Claude Code's effort tiers, and GPT-5.6's Ultra reasoning mode all point the same way: users choose task difficulty and the tool selects the model and thinking budget behind it. This abstracts model routing away from the operator and toward the harness — the same move that made effort-per-task, not model-per-task, the emerging cost-control knob for long agent runs.
