US Reclassifies UAE to Group A:5, Unlocking License-Free AI Chip Exports
The Commerce Department's BIS reclassified the UAE to Country Group A:5 effective July 10, removing it from EAR Groups D:3/D:4 and eliminating license requirements for advanced AI chips and servers, defense-related tech, and satellites under the STA program. Approved UAE entities including G42 and Core42 — plus US firms operating there (Amazon, Microsoft, Google, xAI, OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia customers) — can now receive frontier compute without licenses. It makes the UAE the first Arab country to reach A:5 status, following the 2025 US–UAE AI cooperation framework.
