Microsoft Consolidates Security Engineering With Hundreds of Layoffs, Redirecting to Security Copilot and Agent-Monitoring Tools
Microsoft's July 18 security-engineering consolidation reportedly involves several hundred layoffs, with leadership redirected toward Security Copilot, code-vulnerability scanners, and — notably — tools that monitor enterprise software agents. That last category is the tell: agent observability is being staffed by cutting traditional security engineering headcount, which prices the bet internally. It also opens the same gap Vanta and Wiz exploited a cycle ago, since 'who watches the agents' is currently an unowned compliance surface.
