Physics-Based U-Net Radar Nowcasting Targets the 10–90 Minute Precipitation Window
Akshay Sunil, Muhammed Rashid and Raja Sekhar Sivaraju (arXiv 2607.16080, cs.LG/eess.IV) apply a multi-variable U-Net with physical constraints to hyperlocal high-resolution precipitation nowcasting in the immediate 10-90 minute horizon — the window that matters for flood management and real-time urban decisions but falls between radar extrapolation and NWP models. The physics-based framing is the differentiator from the pure deep-learning nowcasting wave.
