GitHub Copilot canvases turn chat into interactive, action-taking workspaces

GitHub published a guide to building with Copilot canvases, which convert the linear chat transcript into an interactive workspace where you can visualize information, explore workflows, and trigger actions across multi-step tasks. It's the same generative-UI direction as ChatGPT Canvas and Claude Artifacts, but scoped to developer workflows inside GitHub. The practical question for builders is whether canvases expose enough state to compose with existing Actions and PR automation, or remain a presentation layer.
