Anthropic updated voice mode on July 23 so spoken conversations can run on Sonnet and Opus rather than the Haiku model that has powered the feature since 2025 — it now starts on whatever model you last picked in text chat, runs the fastest variant by default, and exposes a picker to switch tiers mid-conversation. Voice can now reach connected tools including Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Canva and Notion, so it can check a schedule, summarize mail, and act on what it finds without leaving the conversation. Free users get Haiku plus single-app access; paid tiers unlock all models and multi-app chaining.
