Claude Code Reportedly Ships an Instruction Discouraging Opus 5 From Spawning Subagents
An r/ClaudeCode post surfaced on HN today claiming Claude Code carries a hardcoded instruction telling Opus 5 not to use subagents. Anthropic's own Opus 5 prompting documentation contains matching guidance — "do not delegate work you can finish yourself in a handful of tool calls, and do not use subagents to verify or double-check your own work" — and third-party guides note Opus 5 delegates more readily than Opus 4.8, making unbounded fan-out a cost problem on cost-sensitive workloads. The "hardcoded" framing is single-source and unconfirmed by Anthropic; what is documented is the recommendation, which sits awkwardly beside the same week's disclosure that 80% of Claude Code's system prompt was deleted.
