Nvidia in Talks for a ~$250B Backstop on OpenAI's 10-Gigawatt Ohio Campus, Plus Up to $350B in Chip Financing
CNBC and the WSJ report Nvidia is negotiating a roughly $250 billion financial guarantee to let OpenAI lease a 10-gigawatt data center campus in Piketon, Ohio — built on a former uranium-enrichment site and owned/developed by SoftBank's SB Energy, with a full footprint costing north of $500 billion. Separate talks cover as much as $350 billion of Nvidia accelerators. The guarantee exists because OpenAI likely lacks an investment-grade credit rating, so lenders would need recourse to Nvidia's balance sheet instead — terms are unsettled and the deal could still collapse, and neither company has confirmed.
