Nadella: Companies Without Their Own Models or an AI Gateway Layer 'May Not Survive'
Satya Nadella argued that firms routing everything through a single proprietary lab hand that lab their most sensitive business context — which the lab can then turn against them as a competitor. His prescription is an orchestration layer: keep the harness separate from the model, and the context and memory separate from both, so any one model can disappear without taking the business with it. Coming from the CEO whose company is OpenAI's largest backer, this is a notable endorsement of model-agnostic architecture as a survival requirement rather than an optimization.
