Huang Takes the Open-Weights Fight to Capitol Hill — Meetings With Cruz and Warner, and a $500B Domestic Infrastructure Pledge
On July 28 Huang met both Republican and Democratic lawmakers in Washington, including Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Mark Warner, to argue for 'American leadership in AI, including leading in open source.' He defended open-weight models — downloadable and customizable — as essential to safe and secure economy-wide AI adoption, and pointed to Nvidia's pledge to produce up to $500 billion of AI infrastructure domestically. This converts last week's coalition letter from a signature drive into direct legislative lobbying, and it lands the same week 1,178 lab employees asked the same government for a mechanism to slow things down.
