Perplexity Puts Its Agent Harness on the Windows Desktop, Orchestrating 15+ Models Across Local Files, Microsoft 365 and the Web
Personal Computer for Windows launched July 27 to paying Max and Enterprise Max subscribers, extending Perplexity's agent beyond the browser to operate directly on local Word, Excel and other files while moving between them and the open web in a controlled way. It builds on the May rollouts of Computer inside Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook via a native side panel and inside Microsoft Teams, and connects to 400-plus additional files and tools through App Connectors including Snowflake, Salesforce and HubSpot. The demo Perplexity leads with is telling for where agent UX is heading: point it at a to-do list in Notepad and it reads each task, decides how to complete it, then works across local files, Outlook, connected apps and the web, with voice control and phone-to-desktop task handoff.
