GitHub Copilot JetBrains: AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md Instruction Files Now GA with MCP Auto-Approve
On March 11, 2026, GitHub made core agentic capabilities GA in Copilot for JetBrains IDEs, including native support for AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md files—automatically discovered and loaded into agent context from workspace or global paths. This makes cross-IDE instruction file portability a first-class feature: the same CLAUDE.md that guides Claude Code now also governs GitHub Copilot's agent behavior in IntelliJ, Rider, and PyCharm. Agent hooks land in preview, and auto-approve for MCP tools ships alongside.
