Google announced on 2026-07-29 (115 points, 142 comments) a privacy-preserving API that lets parents share a child's age range -- for example 16-17 -- directly with apps, so developers can tailor content without per-app configuration. It is live in Brazil now, reaches Australia and Canada by mid-August 2026, and goes global later in 2026. Google framed integration as optional rather than mandated, stating it would rather give developers flexibility than enforce one-size-fits-all rules, and positioned it alongside the existing Restrict Minor Access control in Play Console.
