VS Code Copilot's July Release Adds Git Worktree Isolation Across Copilot, Claude, and Codex Sessions
The July 2026 VS Code Copilot update (covering v1.127–v1.131) adds worktree support so each agent session runs against an isolated checkout of the repo — and it spans Copilot, Claude, and Codex rather than being Copilot-only. The release also redesigns the Agents window with side-by-side code review and chat, adds subagent tracking showing model, elapsed time, and active tool calls, and lets a single agent session hold multiple chats each with its own history, title, and model, with peer-chat forking to explore alternative approaches. Terminal commands can now be issued inline from chat with a `!` prefix.
