DepthData Launched a 'System of Record for AI Spend' That Refuses to Show Any Number It Can't Verify From a Vendor API
DepthData hit #5 on Product Hunt's July 31 leaderboard with 148 upvotes, pitching a single audit-ready view of AI spend and adoption across ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and other tools. The design constraint is the interesting part: it never displays a figure it cannot verify from the tool's own API, labels every number by verification method, and reads only metadata like seats and usage — never prompts. It is targeting the gap where finance teams pay for four or five AI subscriptions and cannot answer what they spend, who uses it, or which seats are idle — a FinOps category that did not exist as a product line a year ago.
