EU AI Act Article 50 transparency rules and GPAI enforcement powers activate today, August 2, 2026
As of August 2, 2026, Article 50 applies to every AI system that interacts with humans or generates synthetic content: conversational agents must disclose they are AI, AI-generated output must carry machine-readable marking, and deepfakes must be labeled. The same day, the European Commission's active enforcement powers over general-purpose AI models — information requests, model access, and recall powers — switch on, one year after the GPAI obligations themselves took effect. The Annex III standalone high-risk obligations that were originally due today were pushed to December 2, 2027 by the June 16, 2026 amendments, so builders shipping agents into the EU face disclosure and labeling duties now but get a 16-month reprieve on high-risk conformity work.
