TechCrunch reported July 31 that Siri's AI capabilities could carry a paywall for heavy users. The relevance to SaaS is the precedent, not the product: an assistant bundled into an OS at zero marginal price to the user is the purest free-tier-cannibalization threat to paid AI tools, and metering it concedes that inference cost does not amortize into hardware margin the way features historically did. Every vendor currently absorbing agent inference inside a flat subscription is running the same math on a shorter runway.
