Pattern: Agent State Is Migrating Out of the Harness Into a Shared Core the Harness Connects To
Three independent data points from the last four days point the same direction: qm puts memory, permissions, keychains, crons and sandboxes in a Postgres core that Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Pi all attach to; the MCP 2026-07-28 spec removed protocol-level sessions entirely and pushed state to server-minted handles the client passes back as tool arguments; and best-of-Agent-Harnesses now catalogs 141 harnesses, making the CLI itself the cheap, swappable part. This is the inverse of the model-agnostic story — it's not that harnesses accept any model, it's that durable agent state is being deliberately built to outlive whichever harness you're running this month.
