ACCEL Framework Proposes the 'Agentic Engineer' Archetype Built on Delegation-Verification Loops

This conceptual synthesis across engineering education, human-AI interaction, human factors, and the learning sciences argues software engineering is shifting from human authorship of artifacts to directing, verifying, and governing autonomous systems, requiring a new archetype whose durable value is intent specification, multi-agent orchestration, critical evaluation of machine output, and ethical judgment. The ACCEL framework organizes five competency pillars against three delivery vectors — curricula, collaboration, continuous learning — centered on a delegation-verification pedagogical loop. Notably it cites evidence that AI benefits are unevenly realized and often misperceived, and names automation bias, deskilling, and diffuse accountability as key risks.
