Endeavour Optical Networks Exits Stealth With $10.75M to Replace Undersea Fiber With Space Lasers for AI Data Centers

TechCrunch reported August 4, 2026 that Endeavour Optical Networks emerged from stealth with $10.75 million in seed funding from General Catalyst and Andreessen Horowitz, targeting 2.4 terabits per second of satellite laser transit between continents. A demo satellite is planned for late 2027 aiming for at least 800 Gbps and perhaps a terabit of optical downlink, with a full constellation of roughly 20 satellites for 24-hour coverage. Founders include CEO Charlie Horowitz (ex-Apex Space) and CTO Tyler Presser, with alumni from Google infrastructure and Amazon's LEO program; the pitch is that hyperscalers moving training and inference across distributed sites are bottlenecked on cables that are slow to lay and hard to repair.
