AWS announced and open-sourced Kiro Crew on August 4 — a persistent multi-agent development workspace that coordinates coding agents across repositories, tools, and sessions rather than within a single chat. It ships persistent memory, scheduling via cron and webhooks, approval workflows, sandboxing, signed audit logs, and a web plus desktop dashboard, and can run locally or on a machine you manage. AWS says 39,000 Amazon builders adopted it internally in under six months, with nearly 500 contributors shipping 597 updates at 143 commits a week — the interesting part for builders is that the orchestration layer, not the agent, is what AWS chose to give away.
