Simon Willison One-Shots a 3D Browser Game With Claude Fable 5 — and Concludes Designing Fun Is Still the Human Part
From two images in a 2024 tweet plus one instruction ('Work independently — do not ask me to make any further design decisions... Commit and push as often as possible'), Fable 5 in Claude Code for web built a playable 3D raccoon stealth game with guards, a scent-tracking dog, a police cruiser, speed pickups and three nights of escalating difficulty, deployed to GitHub Pages, using Playwright for self-verification via screenshots and OpenAI's image API for textures. Willison calls the engineering 'a very impressive starting point' but the gameplay 'mediocre' and 'very, very easy'. The takeaway he lands on is the useful one for builders: autonomous multi-hour builds now clear the implementation bar, and taste is what's left.
