The National Science Foundation announced on August 5 a $100 million program funding up to 10 State and Regional AI Infrastructure Hubs, one award per state or region, to pool advanced computing, data and software for AI-enabled research and education. NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Dell Technologies, Hangar and the Secunda Innovation Fund all committed to supporting participants. Beyond hardware, NSF is funding consortium coordination, AI-infrastructure workforce training, and curriculum and faculty development — a public-compute counterweight at a moment when frontier capacity is concentrating in a handful of private clouds.
