Four Independent Kimi K3 Local-Inference Engines Appeared Within 11 Days of the Weights Dropping
Beyond the official repo, four separate projects race to run the 2.78T model on consumer hardware: kimi-k3-in-c (3,009 stars, C99/CPU), sqliteai/waste (1,849, NVMe streaming), gavamedia/deltafin (715, Rust with an OpenAI-compatible server), and onetoken-oss/K3Flight (669, single-file Linux server claiming ~55 GB measured runtime RAM). All four were created between 2026-07-28 and 2026-08-01. The pattern is new: open-weight frontier releases now spawn a competitive local-inference ecosystem in under two weeks, and the bottleneck everyone reports is storage bandwidth, not FLOPs.
