Ford ships a Google Cloud-hosted LLM assistant in the Ford and Lincoln app that reads live vehicle telemetry
The Verge reports Ford is rolling out an AI assistant in its mobile app that answers vehicle-specific questions — how much fuel a planned road trip needs, whether a given truck can tow a given load, current tire pressure and oil life. The assistant is hosted on Google Cloud and built on an LLM, was first announced at CES in January 2026, and targets over eight million Ford and Lincoln app customers before an in-vehicle rollout planned for 2027. The interesting part for builders is not the chat interface but the grounding: the assistant is wired to per-VIN specifications and live telemetry, which is the difference between a manual-search bot and something that can answer 'can I make it to Pittsburgh.'
