A Service Selling "100% Human-Written, Never AI" Medical Systematic Reviews Was Entirely AI — Including Eight Fabricated PhDs and a Chatbot Insisting "I'm a Real Person"
404 Media's Emanuel Maiberg reported August 11 that Research Gold, which sold systematic reviews and meta-analyses at $1,900 apiece on an explicit "100% human-written, never AI" promise, invented all eight of its listed PhD methodologists — AI-generated headshots for some, and for others, real scientists' names, bios and LinkedIn photos used without permission. Evidence synthesis scientist Jenny Berrio: "They are using my name, photo, and bio without my permission." Phone, email and chat support all appeared AI-generated, and an assistant named "Sarah" repeatedly insisted "I'm a real person" under direct questioning. The anti-AI guarantee is now itself a fraud surface, which matters for anyone evaluating vendors on provenance claims.
