Spotify will badge 'AI Persona' artists and cut them out of recommendations by default starting mid-September
Announced 2026-08-11, Spotify opens artist self-disclosure immediately and begins showing 'AI Persona' badges in mid-September on artist profiles, search results and track rows. Music from those profiles is excluded by default from editorial, algorithmic and personalized recommendations — the only way to hear it is to explicitly follow the artist, which Spotify calls 'an explicit signal that the user wants to hear more.' Detection combines self-disclosure with automated review of profiles whose names and imagery look photorealistic and AI-generated, prioritized by audience thresholds, with an appeals path and forthcoming user-reporting tools. It extends Spotify's September 2025 policy that labeled AI-generated music and banned unauthorized voice clones.
