LLMRouter Hits 2.34k HuggingFace Upvotes: Learned Routers Beat the Best Fixed Model by 14.6%, and Lightweight Routers Win Under Tight Cost Budgets

Tao Feng, Jiaxuan You and colleagues at UIUC released LLMRouter (arXiv 2608.06867, v1 August 7) as unified infrastructure for developing, evaluating and deploying LLM routers, with an xRouteBench evaluation platform and 16+ representative routers open-sourced. Learned routers outperform the strongest fixed-model baseline by 14.6% relative, and lightweight routers become more competitive as cost constraints tighten — covering single-turn, multi-turn and personalized routing.
