The Wall Street Journal reports Apple is in talks with publishers over a nine-figure budget to supply current news to its AI-powered Siri, expected to roll out later in 2026. The structural detail is the model: 'Apple has proposed a variable compensation model that would pay publishers when their content is used, rather than through a fixed licensing fee' — a departure from the guaranteed-fee deals OpenAI and others have signed.
