TechCrunch reported on 2026-08-14 that PayPal is still negotiating a potential sale to Stripe and private equity firm Advent, with talks intensifying as PayPal's new CEO attempts a turnaround. A Stripe acquisition of PayPal would be one of the largest consolidations in payments history and would concentrate an enormous share of internet checkout infrastructure — including the rails that agentic-commerce products are being built on — under a single private company.
