Amazon drops Alexa+ from $19.99 a month to free on Fire TV, no Prime needed
On August 19 Amazon made Alexa+ free on all compatible Fire TV devices in the US, auto-upgrading users whether or not they subscribe to Prime. Non-Prime users previously paid $19.99 a month. Amazon says Alexa+ customers hold nearly twice as many conversations on Fire TV as they did with the original Alexa, which is the metric it is optimizing for, and the move tracks Google pushing Gemini into Google TV and Roku upgrading its own voice assistant.
