Anthropic's claude-code issue #6235, asking Claude Code to read AGENTS.md alongside or as a fallback to CLAUDE.md, resurfaced on Hacker News at 291 points and 185 comments. The issue has accumulated over 5,200 reactions and 300+ comments since it opened in August 2025, and Anthropic's stated position has been 'not planned for now' since around May. Codex, Amp and Cursor have standardized on AGENTS.md, so the practical workaround remains an import line or a symlink rather than native support.
