Cursor Shipped Origin, a Git Forge for Agent Fleets, Three Hours Before GitHub Went Down for 6 Hours 42 Minutes
Cursor began rolling Origin out to all paid plans on Monday Aug 17; roughly three and a half hours later GitHub logged a 6-hour-42-minute global degradation with ~20% error rates on PRs, issues and API and near 50% on archive and raw file downloads, taking SAML, OIDC, SCIM and Copilot with it. Origin is Git-compatible, syncs alongside existing GitHub repos rather than forcing migration, and ships with Vercel preview deploys plus Depot and Buildkite CI that run existing GitHub Actions workflows unmodified. It is built on Graphite, which Cursor bought in December 2025 above its $290M Series B valuation, and rollout is opt-out for enterprise admins, not opt-in, with pricing, security architecture and data-handling terms still unpublished.
