Pattern: Durable Goals Are Becoming a First-Class Agent Primitive Across Vendors
Three independent tools converged on persistent goals within four days. Claude Code 2.1.239 makes `/goal` check-ins on long-running background work back off (30 min, then 1 h, then every 2 h) instead of nagging every 30 minutes, and restores an active goal when you resume from the `claude --resume` picker. Cursor shipped a `/goal` command for long-lived objectives on 2026-08-19, and LobeHub's 2026-08-22 canary adds a durable goal graph schema. The design question all three are answering is the same: what does an agent do between check-ins, and how does it survive a restart.
