Matt Webb: outsourcing thinking to AI made him learn more, not less — he used ChatGPT as a quaternion tutor instead of a code generator
Webb shipped Galactic Compass 2 on August 21, an iPhone app whose green arrow points at the center of the Milky Way, now with an AR mode and an Apple Watch app for which Claude wrote a custom 3D graphics library because no standard one exists on watchOS. When the AI got the quaternion math wrong in v1, he used ChatGPT as an interactive tutor and learned quaternions himself rather than iterating on prompts. His line, which Willison pulled as a quotation: 'Learning doesn't stop just because I outsource thinking to AI. It pushes me to learn more.'
