Graph Engineering Survey Proposes Explicit Task-Agent-State Graphs as the Successor to Prompt, Context and Harness Engineering
Graph Engineering in the Era of LLM Agents (arXiv 2608.21156, Aug 21) is a 35-author survey that lines up Prompt Engineering, Context Engineering, Harness Engineering and Loop Engineering as successive paradigms and argues each optimizes an individual agent, which cannot resolve tasks needing heterogeneous expertise, interdependent subtasks, parallel execution, independent verification and persistent state. Its proposal is constructing explicit, dynamic graph structures over tasks, agents and system states as the unit of design. It reached second place on HuggingFace Daily Papers on Aug 24 with 23 upvotes, and its companion repo DEEP-JLU/Awesome-Graph-Engineering was released in August 2026 with 38 stars at time of check.
