Protocol Labs Cut Shipyard's Funding and IPFS Loses Its Maintainers on September 30
Announced 2026-08-24, Shipyard ends all IPFS engineering, maintenance and infrastructure work on 2026-09-30 after Protocol Labs declined to renew more than two years of funding. Kubo, Helia, Boxo, Rainbow, IPFS Desktop, IPFS Companion, Someguy, Service Worker Gateway and IPFS Check all lose dedicated maintainers. Public services going dark include ipfs.io, dweb.link, check.ipfs.network, delegated-ipfs.dev, the bootstrap nodes and the Wikipedia-on-IPFS infrastructure, so anything resolving through those gateways needs a plan this month.
