Paul Dix declares 'the end of programming' after Bun's 1M-line Rust rewrite, arguing human line-by-line review is already extinct at the frontier labs
InfluxDB founder Paul Dix published 'The end of programming' on August 25, arguing that writing code by hand and having humans review it line by line is headed for extinction. His evidence is Bun 1.4: multiple agents on a pre-release Fable 5 produced 6,778 commits and over 1 million new lines of Rust in 11 days for roughly $165,000 in tokens, driven by one developer, Jarred Sumner, who built the parallel-agent scaffolding. The counter-argument he does not address is the quality debt in that same diff, which left 13,044 unsafe Rust blocks against 73 in comparable hand-written Rust.
