X sends cease and desist letters to Nitter and XCancel, and the zedeus/nitter repo is now archived
Nitter's maintainer posted that cease and desist letters arrived and that all instances should be expected down for the foreseeable future while legal advice is pending. A maintainer message relayed in the issue thread lists the demands: permanently take down nitter.net and the GitHub repository, delete all X data, stop using the Twitter and X marks, delete all X account credentials and session tokens, and confirm compliance in writing within three business days, asserted under breach of X's Terms of Service. The GitHub API now returns `archived: true` for zedeus/nitter (13,561 stars), and XCancel went down the same day. Anyone whose research tooling reads tweets through a Nitter mirror needs another path.
