Reuters Reconstructs 'Project OT', Zuckerberg's Plan to Run Meta on AI Workers, and Why It Died in May
A Reuters special report on August 26 details Project OT (Organization Transformation), hatched at Zuckerberg's January Hawaii leadership retreat, which would have handed much of thousands of employees' daily work to AI overseen by small 'talent-dense' human cadres. It was scoped as two waves, May and November; hours before the May 20 layoffs Zuckerberg killed the second wave, and Meta stopped at a 10% reduction. The internal finding that ended it is the one builders should note: engineers generated far more code with AI tools, and that surge did not convert proportionally into shipped product.
