A Cluster Analysis of 461,121 Pull Request Descriptions Puts Claude's Writing Style at 45% of Human-Attributed PRs Last Month
Louis Abraham's 'load-bearing' study, at 588 points and 285 comments on Hacker News, clustered 461,121 GitHub PR descriptions from January 2025 through August 2026 using k-means over word distributions with KL divergence rather than squared distance. One style grew from 0.7% of the corpus in early 2025 to 39% by mid-2026 and is still adding about 1.2 percentage points a week; the 2026-emergent cluster accounted for 45% of all human-attributed pull requests last month. Beyond the famous 'load-bearing', the top markers include 'quietly', 'latent' and 'genuine'.
