Google is capping Android app memory because AI data centers are eating the DRAM supply
Google told developers on 2026-08-27 that "significant hardware supply constraints are altering device memory availability," with the squeeze concentrated on low-end phones where the price point is tight. Apps must meet new thresholds for dynamic memory and bitmap usage by February 2027 and implement Zero Tap Sign-In restoration by April 2027, with diagnostic tooling arriving first and a Memory Limiter feature landing later in 2026. This is the first case of AI infrastructure demand producing a hard, dated compliance deadline for ordinary mobile developers.
