Zero data retention, not price, is what stalled Fable 5 adoption
Jamin Ball (Clouded Judgment)·medium signal
Jamin Ball argues in Clouded Judgement 8.28.26 that architectural deletion of prompts and responses now beats retention policy, because a policy can be amended and deletion cannot. When Anthropic shipped Fable 5 with 30-day retention rather than ZDR, Microsoft restricted employee access and GitHub disabled it by default, and adoption trailed the cheaper Opus 5 despite Fable 5 at $10 per million input tokens against GPT-5.6's roughly $5. OpenAI's counter is Private Safety Processing, which keeps data on customer infrastructure and returns only alert categories.
