Biotech Startup Funding Held at $36–40B Through the AI Boom, With $6B of It Going to AI-Native Biotechs
Crunchbase News reported August 30 that global biotech startup funding has stayed in a $36–40 billion band for several years and is tracking the same in 2026, even as overall venture investment hit a record in H1. More than $6 billion of 2026's biotech total went to AI-focused biotechs, concentrated in a few very large rounds: Isomorphic Labs' $2.1B Series B, Earendil Labs' $787M in March, and Chai Discovery's $400M Series C. The read is that AI absorbed the growth in venture dollars rather than cannibalizing an existing sector.
